Introduction

This index reads casino hotels as hotels. Each property below is described by its structure, its setting, its rooms, its restaurants and its performance spaces; where a gaming floor exists it is stated plainly and left at that. Nothing on this page promotes gaming, explains how to take part in it, or treats it as the reason to travel.

The properties

01

Montreal, Canada

  • Expo 67 architecture
  • Island setting
  • Theatre and dining

Montreal Casino & Hotel

The property is anchored by one of the more distinctive buildings in the city — a tiered modernist structure raised for Expo 67 on an island in the St Lawrence, later converted and extended into its present use.

Read as a hotel, the appeal is the setting: parkland on all sides, the river close by, and the downtown skyline across the water rather than around you. Restaurants run from casual to formal, and a performance space handles a regular programme of concerts and shows.

A gaming floor operates across several levels of the main building. It is one feature of the property among the dining rooms, the theatre and the grounds, and guests who never use it still get a stay defined by that island position.

02

Niagara Falls, Canada

  • Falls-facing rooms
  • Theatre venue
  • Spa and dining

Fallsview Casino Resort

Fallsview is built into the escarpment above the Horseshoe Falls, and the elevation is the whole point. A large share of its rooms look directly at the falls, which is a view that changes hour by hour and is lit after dark.

The hotel side runs to several hundred rooms and suites, a spa, a pool, and a set of restaurants that includes a dining room positioned for the same view. A theatre in the complex books touring acts through the year, and the resort connects into the wider Fallsview district on foot.

The gaming floor sits on the lower levels. It is a substantial part of the building without being the reason most guests choose the address — the geography is.

03

Richmond, Canada

  • Fraser River frontage
  • Near Vancouver airport
  • Show theatre

River Rock Casino Resort

River Rock sits on the Fraser River in Richmond, a short hop from Vancouver International Airport and directly on the rapid transit line into downtown Vancouver. That combination — water frontage, airport proximity, a train into the city — makes it an unusually practical base.

The hotel offers rooms and suites across two buildings, with a spa, a pool, and a range of restaurants covering Cantonese, steakhouse and casual formats. A show theatre hosts concerts and comedy, and there is a marina at the water's edge.

Gaming occupies a large ground-floor room. As with the rest of this category, it is best understood as one department of a full-service riverside hotel.

04

Rama, Canada

  • First Nation owned
  • Entertainment centre
  • Lake Couchiching area

Casino Rama Resort

Casino Rama stands on the lands of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation in central Ontario, near Orillia and the lakes north of Toronto, and First Nation ownership is a defining fact about the property rather than a footnote to it.

Its entertainment centre is the largest draw for many visitors, a purpose-built arena-scale room that books touring music and comedy through the year. The hotel attached to it runs to several hundred rooms with a spa, a pool and a spread of restaurants and casual counters.

The gaming floor is one part of a resort that also functions as a regional live-music venue and a lakes-country weekend base. Cottage country is close, which shapes the rhythm of the place across the seasons.

Four properties, read as buildings.

The gaming floor is a department. The island, the escarpment, the river frontage and the concert hall are what the entries are actually about.
